Actions

  1. You tell the Storyteller what you are trying to do, and frame what you want to do into a written action.

  2. The Storyteller then assigns which S.P.E.C.I.A.L Stat is to be rolled and a target number called the difficulty.

  3. You may play a SPECIAL Card if applicable.

  4. You make a roll using the determined S.P.E.C.I.A.L Stat, which will be modified by the number of cards you have slotted in that category.

  5. If your die result is greater than (or equal to) the target number, you have successfully passed the test and completed the action.

  6. The Storyteller will reply with the degree of success or failure.

Important Terms

Storyteller(ST): A Storyteller creates the world that exists around the players’ characters. She also devises the plot of the game, and adjudicates any conflict or challenges that arise. It is the Storyteller’s job to make the setting feel real so the players can properly decide how their characters would interact.

Encounters: These are the scenes that pit a player(s) against a set of problems or conflicts. These may be random or consistent enough to develop a plot line.

Static Challenges: Static challenges are dice rolls performed against the Storyteller or a SPECIAL Card. These always have a set difficulty you need to beat via dice rolls.

Opposed Challenges: Opposed challenges are dice rolls performed against another player or an NPC.

Turn: A turn is a player's single written post.

Round: A round is when everyone in the current scene has has taken one turn.

Additional Info

Roleplay Caps and HUD caps: HUD caps and RP caps are NOT mutually exclusive. Thus you do not need to pay your HUD caps to someone if you don't want to. That said we suggest doing so for the immersive experience of using caps and acquiring them for certain services.

HUD requirement: The HUD is required to be on if making rolls of any caliber. This means if you are in combat, or just making a stat roll, the HUD must be worn.

Making a Static Challenge

This is the most common sort of challenge. In a static challenge, you are rolling against a fixed target number (difficulty) determined by the Storyteller.

Opposed Challenge

When your character is competing with another character directly, you must make an opposed challenge to see what happens. In this type of challenge, both characters get to roll and the results are compared. Another way to think about it is that your target number is determined by your opponent’s roll result.

  1. You tell the Storyteller or target player what you are trying to do and frame what you want to do into a written action.

  2. If applicable you may use a SPECIAL Card. Read the card for the description.

  3. The target player may than use a SPECIAL CARD of their own or if you're against a Storyteller, they may assign bonuses or penalties to the rolls to either you or the NPC they control.

  4. Starting with you, you and your opponent both make S.P.E.C.I.A.L Stat rolls, which one can be determined below, depending on the type of action.

  5. Compare the dice results. If you beat your opponent’s roll result, you win. If there’s a tie, the target(defender) wins, unless specified by a SPECIAL Card.

  6. Lastly, consult the table below to determine the outcome of the Opposed Challenge.
